Expedition Ra. Im Papyrusboot über den Atlantik is the German title of Thor Heyerdahl’s Ra, translated from the Norwegian by Alfred Otto Schwede, and published by Volk und Welt in 1973. For the jacket design, Gerhard Medoch contrasted Windsor Elongated with Windsor Bold. The swelling shapes of the latter nicely echo the filling sail of the vessel made from papyrus. The subtitle is set in Univers. Klaus Wittkugel’s zigzag logo for Volk und Welt can here be seen as the supporting waves of the ocean.
