This ad from The Era-Leader of Franklintown, Louisiana features an unusually modern layout for 1921. While the engaging use of negative space and asymmetrical layouts became quite common 20–30 years later, it was quite rare to find such generous emptiness in the dense newspaper pages of the time. It has quite a powerful effect.

This advertising refrain is an old one, going back to 1868, at least.
