Originally designed by Ernst Friz in one weight, Friz Quadrata was among the 15 award winning type face designs in a competition sponsored by Visual Graphics Corporation in 1966, and released for VGC’s Typositor. When ITC adopted it in 1973, a bold weight was added by Victor Caruso [U&lc Vol.1 No. 1]. ITC’s version of the regular is slightly different from VGC’s, see e.g. i/j dots, ‘S’, ‘t’, ‘0’). Finally, in 1992, Thierry Puyfoulhoux designed italic weights for both the original and bold weights, which were released by ITC in 1994.
