Gloria marks the debut album of the Shadows of Knight, originally launched in 1966 as Dunwich Records no. 666. The album’s title track, a rendition of Them’s song, emerged as the band’s major success, climbing to the tenth spot on the Billboard charts. Album cover was designed by Ron Fratell, using a cover photograph by Don Bronstein.
Thanks, Ben! Chwast Art Tone came out around 1966, so this album cover represents an early use. Several of the letterforms seen on it don’t match the ones featured in PLINC’s specimen, compare T o w n i g t. It’s possible that some of these glyphs were available as alternates, but it strikes me more likely that they are modifications, or custom additions. The g is particularly odd. The title with the distorted unicase letters most certainly is custom lettering. See also a partial glyph set for Artone on Daylight Fonts.
