The worst nuclear power plant accident in the United States took place 45 years ago on March 28, 1979, at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station on the Susquehanna River near Middletown, Pennsylvania.

Local residents used humor to cope with the disruption and uncertainty caused by the accident. This parody of an ad for a health resort transforms the radioactivity released during the accident into year-round suntans, warm river waters, and gamma ray treatments. The holes in the card and its chipped edges suggest that the card spent time tacked up on someone’s bulletin board.

THREE-MILE ISLAND RESORT
SUNTANS year round! BATHE in the warm waters of the Susquehanna River!
Also, FREE In-Room Gamma Ray Treatments!
