the 18th century (but not the work of the type’s namesake, Charles-Nicholas
Cochin). Cut by Charles Malin in 1912 [Linotype],
possibly in collaboration with Henri Parmentier [Reichardt/Hoefer], and issued by Peignot
& Fils in regular, italic and open (blanc, also known as
Mercure)
styles. Bigger sizes in wood [Signes].
Caslon added Bold and Bold Open styles (see
Pharos), both in upright and italic. Also
cast by other foundries, incl. ATF
