This book about Danish film director and screenwriter Carl Theodor Dreyer (1889–1968) was authored by British film critic Tom Milne (1926–2005). It was jointly published by A.S. Barnes & Co., New York, and A. Zwemmer Ltd., London, in the International Film Guide series edited by Peter Cowie.

The uncredited cover designer chose Fette Gotisch for Dreyer’s name, one of the few classic blackletter designs that were issued for dry transfer lettering. It’s supported by Folio fett. Both designs originated at the Bauer foundry, albeit some eighty years apart.
