Mexico 68 a.k.a. Mexico Olympic is a
narrow triline design with caps and figures only, designed for the
Olympic Games in Mexico City in 1968. Developed from the logo
created by Lance Wyman in 1966, which is based on the geometry of
the Olympic rings and inspired by multiline patterns found in
Mexican art. In the original application, words were tightly spaced
with interlocking glyphs [Lance Wyman].
Manufactured by Photoscript Ltd. [Berthold E3]
Very similar faces are included in PLINC’s One Line
(1971) as Olympic (accompanied by a shaded variant,
Olympic Cast Shadow). Schaedler shows Hotline, “a new alphabet
design by Ray
Cruz”. [Schaedler c.1970] Also shown by Lettergraphics as Hotline Plain plus a
version with a different ‘E’ named El Conquistador.
[Lettergraphics 1976]. Castcraft had a
Focus Triline with alternates for ‘AEFIMNW’.
