Behind its smiling face, the countryside hid ugliness – a forgotten body in a ditch, a corpse floating down the river.

The Estate of the Beckoning Lady is the 15th novel in the Albert Campion series. Margery Allingham’s crime story was first published in 1955 in the United Kingdom by Chatto & Windus (as The Beckoning Lady) and in the United States by Doubleday. This is a paperback edition published by Macfadden Books in 1962 (50–155).

The cover design by Karol uses all-caps Mistral with Franklin Gothic Condensed.

“The countryside hid ugliness,” my behind. It’s right there on the cover!
