Les Copains d’abord is a new bar-restaurant, based at the heart of a mainstream area in Bordeaux (France). Managed by a group of friends who wanted the people to quickly understand the spirit. My wish was to reflect this welcoming and simple state of mind, with less wifi and hipster. We are here to have fun, dance or simply meet new people without taking ourselves seriously!
I chose to use two typefaces. The first one represents the old French brasseries style from the sixties, using a popular typeface created by Roger Excoffon, Mistral. The second one is neater and more modern: Knockout was used to enhance the word “Copains”. Using the synergy and the weight contrast of the two typefaces, I was easily able to play with phrases and forms.
