  1. The overall Japanese text at the back cover is Nāru, and the vertical text at the middle is Sūbo.

The two bold looking kana text is set in Shaken’s Typos (タイポス) series with the boldest weight being used “タイポス 1212”. It is evident from the vertical dakuten marks.

  2. Thanks so much! You’re really clearing out our backlog of unidentified Japanese typefaces.

In Shaken’s online archive, I can see various styles under the name タイポス: 35 TY35A, 37 TY37A, 45 TY45A, 411 TY411A (all from 1969), 44 TY44, 66 TY66, 88 TY88 , and 1212 TY1212 (all from 1972). Are these all members of the same series? I’m asking because some look quite different from the others, in terms of contrast.

  3. Typos originally is a serif and sans serif kana typeface. The strokes of each kana may differ depending on the variant (especially the serif/mincho styles). The associating kanji used for typos are Ishii Mincho for serif and Ishii Gothic for sans serif.
