Le journal minimal is non-profit and free periodical publication for citizens who no longer believe in the consumer society. The brand identity was created by Aurélien Vret, with very strict specifications: the use of colour was banned, and the design had to be bare-bones.
The degrowth newspaper was created in 2015 by Emmanuelle Veil (chief editor), who worked for Le Monde, Le Parisien, L’express, Charlie Hebdo, and Catherine Simonet (publication director), a pianist and composer. The media was financed by crowdfunding and with the financial endowment of the agnès b. foundation. For environmental reasons, le journal minimal is an online-only medium. Printing was used solely for the branding identity.
Le journal minimal has used Prosaic since its foundation on November 4th, 2015. The typeface family was still under development in the Typofonderie studio in Clamart, since 2012. Typofonderie published it in January 2017.
