Quarks, Elephants & Pierogi: Poland in 100 Words is the first publication by the editorial team of Culture.pl (Sylwia Jabłońska, Magdalena Burdzyńska, Mikołaj Gliński, Matthew Davies, Adam Żuławski). The book is presents a series of 100 illustrations and articles that discuss all sorts of Polish words, such as miłość (“love”), imieniny (“name day”), ojczyzna (“fatherland”), wolność (“freedom”), and even filiżanka (“tea cup”).

Often via etymology, each word is an entry point to the multi-layered world of Polish culture and history. The book was published by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and has been awarded at the International Book Fair in Krakow, 2018.

The title is set in Sudety.
