Via Büro Destruct’s Fonts from the flea market #1201: Hot Dog in use for a dixieland record featuring Rex Stewart, Buster Bailey, Marty Napoleon, George Wettling, and others. Originally released by Everest Records Archive Of Folk & Jazz Music (USA, 1976), this is the cover of an Italian pressing by Quadrifoglio from 1977.
Hot Dog is the only published typeface design by Italian graphic artist Antonio Tabet. It was issued by Mecanorma, the French manufacturer of dry transfer lettering sheets, in 1975. Born in 1941, Antonio Tabet worked in London and Milan, at Unimark International and Pirelli. At Pirelli, he was involved in the design of the Cable Review magazine. From 1972 to 2000 he served as art director of the Banca del Gottardo in Lugano, Switzerland. Since 2000, he has gradually moved away from graphics and devoted himself mainly to artistic research in space, using reflections, transparencies, shadows and joints.
On the cover, the outlined caps with rounded corners are paired with Orea, which was Mecanorma’s uncredited copy of Amelia. “I Grandi Del Jazz” uses Gill Sans.
