Lineto’s digital edition of Haas
Unica, originally designed by Team’77 in the mid-1970s. Lineto worked with
Team’77, with Christian Mengelt redrewing from their original
designs, assisted by Maurice Göldner for extensions. With its name
referring to the typeface’s original authors, Lineto first
published LL Unica77 on March 7, 2015. Three
additional weights (Thin, Medium, Extra Black) followed in February
2016 for a total of seven weights plus italics.
A revised version including Cyrillic
(in collaboration with Ilya Ruderman and Yury Ostromentsky), Greek
(with Irene Vlachou), and diacritics and punctuation
revised by Viktoriya Grabowska was presented in fall 2019.
In consultation with Team’77, Luca Pellegrini created Unica77
Condensed, Unica77
VIP, a complete redraw of Unica77
Mono, and finally, a rounded counterpart called
Unisoft77. He also expanded the glyph set
considerably, adding small caps, old style figures, and an
extensive symbol set. Further expansion for Arabic (in
collaboration with Kristyan Sarkis), Hebrew (with Yanek Iontef and Daniel Grumer) and Vietnamese are scheduled for
release in spring 2024.
