Share Light is a project that aims at translating the Bible into all the existing 6,101 languages by 2033. The campaign was initiated by illumiNations – an alliance of Bible translation partners (such as American Bible Society and United Bible Societies) and resource partners (such as SIL International) working together.

Combined with the narrower but also square typeface Liberator, JAF Mashine is featured in the design of the Share Light campaign. The website additionally uses Proxima Nova for body copy.

What appears to be the use of stylistic alternates (alternative letter shapes) from JAF Mashine is in fact an effect that stems from the fonts’ mapping of the more complex “seriffed” shapes to the capital letters and the simpler shapes to the lowercase, as stylistic sets were not widely supported in 2005, when JAF Mashine was released. Although this is probably unintended, it gives the typography a certain richness and supports the typeface’s playful design.
