The restructuring operation of the historical intramural Paris based prison “La Santé”, launched in 2014 to improve general conditions of imprisonment, was a pretext for enriching the corpus of prison photography. For three years, from the inventory to the completion of the project, American photographer and architect Kyle Brooks was commissioned by VINCI Construction France to provide a documentary overview of the evolution of the prison’s metamorphosis. The result is this publication, a large format in which the dense and modular compositions evoke the codes of the major photojournalism magazines of the 1960s.
