Bará by Gustavo Nazareno
Bará, by Gustavo Nazareno, is a series of around 400 charcoal drawings that together create a dance, a ceremony in honor of the Yorubá god (to be precise, an orisha) called Èṣù, that guides, protects, and is the “lord of the body”.
Designed by Felipe Chodin and Camila Regueira in São Paulo, the hardcover art book and accompanying identity come with exquisite finishes and a carefully thought-out design, using Grand Slang from Nikolas Type as the main typographic voice. It is paired with a Maxeville from the SM Foundry.
The bilingual publication (Portuguese and English) brings together around 120 works from the Bará series, as well as texts by Gustavo Nazareno and curators Deri Andrade and Danny Dunson.
