Matthijs brings up Cristal as an underrepresented typeface. That reminded me of this use of Rémy Peignot’s shiny capitals with “Latin” serifs and a tapering double inline.
Imaginary Lands is a fantasy anthology conceived and edited by Robin McKinley (b. 1952), published in 1986 by Greenwillow Books. It includes nine stories by James P. Blaylock, Patricia A. McKillip, Robert Westall, Peter Dickinson, Jane Yolen, P.C. Hodgell, Michael de Larrabeiti, Joan D. Vinge, and McKinley herself, and won the 1985 World Fantasy Award for best collection.
The title is placed in the red sky over the strange landscape painted by Peter Sís, intensifying the glow of Cristal. The typographer condensed the letterforms quite a bit, probably so that the title can be shown a little bigger. They also modified some glyphs for a tighter fit: G lost the right part of its serif, N’s top left serif was trimmed (cf. M), and, most drastically, L was halved in width, to minimize the gap to the subsequent A.
