This record has some spectacular cover art drawn by Bob Pepper, with art direction by J.J. Stelmach. In terms of typography, it may seem less interesting. However, it helps us with narrowing down the design date for Rustikalis: this eccentric calligraphic face was issued by VGC sometime after their 1973 catalog (where it isn’t yet included). Rustika must have been available in 1977, when the album was released by RCA. Its designer is unknown – let us know if you know more. Here it’s used in the boldest weight, Rustikalis Black, in all caps with stretched faux small caps. All other text is in Optima.
