Ghost Funk Orchestra – A Song For Paul
On their Bandcamp page, Ghost Funk Orchestra describe themselves as “a mystery. Plain and simple. Dirty, soulful production, verbed and fuzzed out guitars, mysterious vocals that feel like a lost score to a Quentin Tarantino film. The brainchild of one-man producer/musician/arranger Seth Applebaum, GFO is forging new territory and blurring the line between soul and psychedelic.”
Released on Karma Chief/Colemine Records, August 2019. The album cover shows a photograph of scattered seeds on a grid of concrete tiles, sandwiched between light weight caps from Neue Helvetica and two heavy lines of Motter Ombra. In order to preserve the stacked-and-justified design, the top line of the band name uses type in a smaller point size. I do not quite get why the word space between “Ghost” and “Funk” is left/made so wide that it breaks the solid block.
