In 1947, Rudolf Hell
(1901–2002) founded Dr.-Ing. Rudolf Hell KG, a company specializing
in communications equipment and electronic reproduction technology,
in Kiel, Germany. Introduced the Klischograph for
the mechanical production of printing plates for letterpress
printing in 1954 and the first Chromagraph
scanner in 1963. Presented the first electronic typesetting
system with digital storage and the Digiset digital
typesetting machine in 1965.
Siemens, which had already owned shares in the company since
1971, took over the remaining 20% of the company in 1981. After
