From Nada Prlja:
The first word Counteract in the title of the artwork Counteract Disappearance contains the word Act and calls for action against Disappearance. In this case, the artwork talks about the future of Maltfabrikken in Ebeltoft (the actual space wherein the installation was made), and the transformation of a disused former factory building, into a new cultural centre. The artwork calls for action against the erasure of the past, by considering the built and unbuilt environment of the ex-factory.
On the walls of one of the storage spaces of the former factory, the letters of the words Counteract Disappearance are applied in gold coloured spray paint. The colour and the words, although intensely applied to the mortar and lime of the walls, eventually peel, crack and fall away, reflecting the impossibility of maintaining the status quo, painting a picture of the impossibility of uphold the present and of postponing the future.
