A Memoir: Luck Beat Obeah
At Plantain, we help families craft bespoke memoirs and company history books.
Fraught with obstacles, such as a debilitating health issue that struck our client during the making of this book, this story, in a sense, was not fully “caught” in time.
Luck Beat Obeah compiles the stories she was ready to share in the year that we got to know her. The title reflects the impression she has of her life: rather than purposeful direction, she succeeded (against the odds), by virtue of luck. While we cannot argue that luck plays a key role in anyone’s success, the year we spent with her taught us about her spirit and strength of character. In fact, at Plantain our memoirs are always self-commissioned by men, but with this book, she sets the precedent as the first woman ever to commission a memoir at our publishing house: for herself. We are honoured that she did.
The fonts we used are those we felt best reflect her personality, including Minion, Palatino, and Adobe Arabic (not shown in these images).
20 copies of this book were printed on Sapphire Verona fine linen, a natural textured linen surface, and a red foil was used. The interior made use of the luxurious Bright White Uncoated Vellum paper (120 gr).
