J-card for the cassette version (almost certainly a bootleg) of a rare release by the fantastic, variously named Super Djata Band, led here by guitarist and founder Zani Diabaté, originally released with Éditions Omogidi Music, Ivory Coast, in the 1980s.

I doubt the designer is credited on the LP, which I have not seen. The original cover design combines stacked caps from Churchward Design with ITC Uptight, a biline face that also appeared on another release by the band, and Univers. It is complemented by more Univers (“BLACK POWER”) and a track list in Futura. I was unable to find a convincing match for “SUPER DJATA BAND DU MALI” font, although Cheltenham or Gloucester come close. I’d be happy to hear from anyone with any insight into the history of typography in West Africa.
