The wonderful world of El Pintor is an exhibition shown at the Resistance Museum in Amsterdam, aimed at children from 4 to 10 years.
Central are the children’s books and games that Jaap Kloots and his wife Galinka Ehrenfest, both prosecuted for their Jewish origin, published from 1941 under the alias El Pintor. The books with illustrated stories were extremely popular in the Netherlands and were even sold in Germany. Part of the proceeds were used to help people in hiding.
The exhibition poster uses Barricada for the title. Designed by Elí Castellanos Chávez, this typeface is distinguished by extra short ascenders and flared stroke endings. It was released by Sudtipos in a single extrabold weight in 2008. The smaller items are set in all-lowercase Neutraface (House Industries) with the alternate monocular a. The logo features a custom typeface named Verzet Stencil, designed for the museum’s identity by Jeremy Jansen with some help from Bold Decisions.
