The King World Productions “Star and Stripes” logo, used from 1984 to 1998. The King World logo used Serpentine Bold Italic with a modified “G” and “W” with a star imprinted in negative space on the bottom of the “W” and on three stripes.

This actually looks more like Chaney Extended instead of any font out of the Serpentine family.
Eric, Chaney appears to be a freeware knockoff of Serpentine and most likely did not exist in 1984 when the Kingworld logo was designed. This logo was probably made with phototype which could be stretched and manipulated like digital type. Or it was hand drawn based on the Serpentine typeface. That explains why it doesn’t match perfectly any digital font.
