Sally Jeffery on the Internet Archive:
Six beer-bottle labels from a series designed and produced as part of Desmond Jeffery’s newly-specified house style for the Suffolk brewers Greene, King & Sons Ltd. The two- and three-colour line artwork was done on a drawing-board in pen and ink, with the lettering composed of pasted-up letterpress repro proofs (cut or notched as required to follow a curve). While wine and spirit labels could be printed on the Heidelberg platen, for beer labels the workshop supplied separated artwork to the brewery’s specialist label printers. Artwork by Sally Jeffery.
The monotone heft of
Antique No. 6 contrasts perfectly with the sharp sparkle of
Modern No. 20. Jeffery frequently used these two typefaces, and even designed and printed some specimens for
Stevens, Shanks who produced Antique No. 6.
