The Para la Naturaleza Fair is an annual event organized by Para la Naturaleza, a non-profit organization that integrates society into the conservation of its natural ecosystems through education and immersion activities. This free public event – comprised of exhibitions, educational and informative modules, agricultural and handicraft market, among other outdoor activities – takes place in Pabellón de la Paz of Parque Luis Muñoz Rivera at San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Each year, the fair exhibitions develop an educational theme related to the conservation and restoration projects of the organization. In 2017, when hurricanes Irma and María hit the islands of Puerto Rico, Para la Naturaleza launched Habitat Restoration, an ecological recovery program intending to reforest the most hurricane-impacted areas.
Under the slogan “¡Reforestemos!”, the central theme of the Para la Naturaleza Fair 2019 edition was the biotic and abiotic elements that help renew forest coverage naturally. Likewise, it was an invitation to all citizens to take action in favor of the reforestation of Puerto Rico.
As an event for the general public at the island level, a mass communication strategy was developed to generate 1) curiosity about the topic, 2) recognition of the concepts exposed, and 3) interest in attending the event.
