Cover design for Julia Elliott’s Hellions, published by Tin House Books and releasing April 2025.
This cover was created by Beth Steidle, art director at Tin House Books. The lovely double l in the title are courtesy of Neulis Cursive, one of the three subfamilies of Neulis, a typeface created by Adam Ladd. Neulis offers a generous range of style, giving a user the ability to mix and match and choose just how playful they want to be. I think Beth struck a great balance between legible and memorable by using the double l glyphs for the main title and choosing the more subtle, but still friendly Neulis Neue for the author name. The lowercase “stories” shows off the nice cursive r and the added blurbs for the final print cover are set in Neulis Sans. Overall, a lovely and harmonious cover design that’s sure to catch attention thanks to Steidle’s creative type choices and electric imagery.
