Early Birds by Alexander Webber and Céline Hurka
Early Birds is featuring an extended weight of the Tonka variable font family. The project was initiated by artist Alexander Webber. He approached me for a typeface for a new painting series and I proposed to use Tonka, which was not yet released.
The paintings were exhibited both at Arts au Centre, Liège, and at Quartair, The Hague, in 2023. In Liège we designed a custom shop window to highlight the artworks.
Early Birds consists of an edition of 50 unique paintings, that are each packaged together with the full typeface family Tonka. The paintings are all intricately made on wood and each of them features a unique color combination. As of January 2025, there is still a limited number of paintings and licenses available.
