On December 13, 2024, 18-year-old Indian player Gukesh D. was crowned the 18th FIDE World Chess Champion after an exceptional duel against reigning champion Ding Liren from China. This historic match, held in Singapore, marked the first time in 138 years that two Asian players competed for the ultimate title. Gukesh secured his victory with a 7.5–6.5 score after 14 hard-fought games, making history as the youngest world champion. The competition, broadcast live with commentary by Grandmaster David Howell and International Master Jovanka Houska, captivated millions of chess enthusiasts worldwide.
