Formance is a fintech startup based in Paris. Its main product is an open-source financial ledger platform that enables software engineers to build complex financial services into their applications. A 2021 graduate of the Y-Combinator startup incubator program, Formance is currently growing its presence with the help of a smart rebrand lead by Odi, an agency that specializes in startups.

Because Formance aims to be at the center of their customers’ financial transactions, Odi’s brand revolves around a hub-shaped mark called the “Connector”. Woven in are several forms of fine-lined patterns that connote infrastructure and interconnectedness.

To compliment the imagery, Odi chose Polymath by OH no Type Co to carry the brand all the way from wordmark to body copy. According to their case study, Odi chose Polymath because it “exudes confidence, amplified by its high x‑height, giving the brand a commanding presence.” Polymath’s geometric forms pair perfectly with the “Connector” mark, and its unique take on the geometric genre signals Formance is not any old fintech company.

To complete the typographic system, Odi carried over Space Grotesk (Florian Karsten Studio) and Space Mono (Colophon Foundry) from Formance’s previous brand. In their words, Space Grotesk and Mono “[bring] a sense of technicality and modernity, which is perfect for buttons and callouts where precision and clarity are paramount.”
