Maragsâ by Jad Maza is prominently used in the album art, booklet, and promotional materials for Jon Batiste’s 2023 album World Music Radio. The typeface is paired with a maximalist, retrofuturistic design approach befitting the album’s concept—an interstellar pop radio host, Billy Bob Bo Bob, showcasing the music of Earth.

  1. Hello! I found out subsequently that the typeface for the WMR logotype thingy is Big John from Ion Lucin.

  2. Hi Naomi! Yes, that’s correct … kind of.

The top row in the image below shows two of the WMR logos as presented in the case study on Wolfgang’s website. These are indeed a match for Big John, which is shown in the bottom at the left.

The middle row shows two logo versions as found in the images of this post. While the one on the right (against a blue background) is a match for Big John, the one on the left appears to be Lemon Milk.

To complicate the matter, Big John was revised in 2018. The new Big John Pro Bold (bottom row, right) has a different W.

  3. Oops, I missed the Lemon Milk instance. Thanks and sorry!

  4. No need to be sorry! Thank you for tracking down Big John.
