Być gościem w katastrofie (“To be a guest in a catastrophe”) is an anthropological essay about looking at images of the war in Ukraine. Description of the book by publisher Zarne (translated to the English by the contributor):
War enters through the eyes. This observation by Goya was expressed in his famous ‘The Disasters of War.’ Today, we can add: images carry suffering, but they also desensitize us to that suffering.
Tomasz Szerszeń’s book attempts to narrate this war through its visual elements and art, exploring what it means today to look, begin, escape, suffer, endure, hate, document, transcend, decolonize, and write.
The cover of the book, designed by Marian Misiak, employs Tor grotesk with custom diacritical marks by Threedotstype.
