WIR. 50 Jahre Landschaft in Transformation by Die Planergruppe
True to this motto, Die Planergruppe (formerly “Planergruppe Oberhausen”) has made it its mission to make (urban) landscapes tangible and usable for around 50 years.
The publication WIR. 50 Jahre Landschaft in Transformation, which was published by Deutscher Architektur Verlag, builds on this system. The elements are also continued and transferred to the typographic layout area in various ways – for example through the arrangement of text elements or the use of indents and headlines.
The affiliation of image and text elements is made clear here by image numbering integrated into text passages. The articles and text content are regularly supplemented by project image sections. In addition to analog and digital images, the book consists of introductory texts, (personal) articles by Planergruppe members and external contributors, retrospective and “future views”, statements, reports on research projects and interviews. The respective layout types make it clear at a glance what type of content is involved.
The typography uses Söhne and Söhne Breit from Klim Type Foundry plus Writer from Pangram Pangram. While the branding of the planner group has been characterised by Söhne from the very beginning (starting with its predecessors Akzidenz-Grotesk and Helvetica), it is complemented within the publication by Writer, which is always used in combination with personal text contributions and quotations in order to emphasise the interplay of information and subjective views and narratives.
The hardcover book, measuring 256 pages of 220×285mm, was printed by Druckerei Kettler in an edition of 250 copies. The papers of the interior are 120g/m² Pergraphica Timid Grey, 115g/m² Lessebo Design Smooth, 135g/m² Gardagloss Art Glossy.
