Cooper Black is certainly being used for the title and “The Roaring Twenties”, but a good portion of the text on this cover seems to be set in Pabst Extra Black.
Well spotted, Bryson! Now that’s an interesting mix. I wonder why the designer felt the need to mix these two highly similar typefaces. It would make sense if they started with Pabst and then wanted to add the charming italic with swash caps from Cooper Black. But mixing both uprights?
I’m looking at Pabst in use and I’m pretty sure the designer wanted to use it on the text for readability, Pabst has those straight serifs on the base that make the font feel more stable.
