There is no greater compliment to a workhorse typeface than a genuinely silly use case…
Kit, from Darden Studio, is the brand typeface of Frizbowl.
What state of mind do you have to be in to ask yourself the question “What do you get when you cross a frisbee with a hat?” The makers of Frizbowl know, and that’s one party we’re glad to be invited to. The result of an impromptu game with a kitchen bowl, the Frizbowl is “the world’s only flying disc designed to catch on your head.”
The typography of the newly launched website uses both Kit Rounded and Kit Sans. The agile twin typefaces work hand-in-hand to explain the basic idea, suggest game variants, and sell the product. While the Rounded is mostly used in ExtraBold and Bold weights for headlines and menu items, the Sans features in its Light weight for text and button labels.
Kit is a love song between two designers, Eben Sorkin and Onur Yazıcıgil, who worked together to discover a perfect melody. Kit’s design process subverted the norms by starting with a rounded, which is uncompromised by a sans origin. The Sans design is in conversation with the Rounded. The congenial pair of workhorse typefaces is the latest release by Darden Studio. Each family is available in eight weights, in upright and italic styles.
