“Live” on Tour in Europe is the only album by the Billy Cobham–George Duke Band, released in 1976 by Atlantic Records.
Cal Schenkel designed the cover, using an illustration by Jim Warren. The band’s name is set in Mats, designed by Joe Taylor and released by 1970 by Lettergraphics. The album title and the credits on the back are set in Helvetica.

Mats, the typeface, is inspired by and named after the matrices (short: mats) used in machine typesetting, and in particular the characteristic pattern of the matrix teeth that enabled the distribution of the matrices.
Damn, Florian! I was thinking “gee, that’s an odd typeface I’d never seen before…wonder what the inspiration behind it was?” Seriously, what would we do without you? ❤

Ha, I almost didn’t post my comment, thinking “isn’t this obvious to most typophiles?” … but then I figured that in fact many folks haven’t held a Linotype matrix in their hands before.
