From the mid-19th century to the present day, AFP journalists and photographers have been capturing the major events of our history, as well as the minutiae of our daily lives. By immersing itself in its fantastic silver archives (over 6 million photos), the agency has unearthed hundreds of previously unpublished images that never cease to amaze, surprise and delight us.

These black-and-white photos take us on a journey through several decades, through the curious eyes of numerous photographers, many of whom have remained anonymous.
