“Nam Yuen – Holiday Magazine award winner. The very best in Chinese food in exquisite setting, combining ancient China with the contemporary. Handsome bar. Appetizing lunches. Tantalizing dinners. December 1961”
Nam Yuen was a restaurant on 740 Washington Avenue, in San Francisco’s Chinatown district. In 1959 they renovated, and their logo in Brush Script was rendered in outline for the neon sign.

“A favorite restaurant of Jack Kerouac and the Beat Generation, this restaurant closed long ago, but the sign remains.”
Found a newspaper ad announcing the renovation that included the sign by Wonderlite, one of San Francisco’s longest running neon sign companies. I updated the date of the Use.

Nam Yuen closed in the early 2000s and the sign was removed around 2014.
