Cafe Moskau is a listed building at Berlin’s Karl-Marx-Allee, inaugurated in 1964 during GDR times. In February 2023, it was temporarily renamed to Cafe Kyiv, and housed an event titled Cafe Kyiv – We Choose Freedom, organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, a German political party foundation:

24 February 2023 will be the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. To mark this sad and terrible occasion, we are joining forces with numerous partner organisations in an art intervention that will temporarily transform the historic Cafe Moskau into Cafe Kyiv.

Throughout the day, Cafe Kyiv will host workshops, discussions, talks, salons and culture. Freedom, Europe, security and recovery will be on the agenda. Through art, history, films, cuisine and the creative scene, we want to rediscover Ukraine and listen to its diverse voices.

The display font used for the event graphics is Misto, a wide all-caps typeface with reversed contrast made in 2019 by Ukrainian designer Kateryna Korolevtseva, who comments:

A huge event dedicated to Ukraine. Thanks to Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for the organization and for inviting me. Thanks to Kaluza+Schmid Studio for using Misto font. The whole event was amazing. Cure for soul.
