From the inner flap:

David Renfield, a young crime reporter for a Glasgow newspaper, led a comfortable but rather dull life, until he met Jean, a beauty who responded to just one thing—money. To get that money, Renfield planned the perfect crime and worked it out beautifully—with just one exception.

In at the Kill is the American title of Deadline for a Dream, the debut novel of Bill Knox (1928–1999), first published in 1957. Knox started his career as journalist for a Glasgow newspaper at age 16 and also reported on crime. Shown here is the jacket of the first US edition published by Doubleday Crime Club in 1961, with a cover drawing by Angela Palladino.

The title typeface is Herbert Post’s Dynamik, first cast by Berthold in 1952. The I with roof and hook hints at its German origin.

The uncredited back cover depicts the Crime Club gunman, who himself is built from the letters C R I M E. Below is a key to the pictograms for the imprint’s subgenres. In at the Kill is classified as “Chase and Adventure” on the inner flap.
