Fonts from the Flea Market #1297

German picture sleeve for Rod Stewart’s “You Wear It Well”. Released on 12 August 1972, the reached number one on the UK Singles Chart (but peaked only at number 35 in Germany).

The display sans that looks a little like Kabel with stencil cuts is called Alpine. Designed by Peter Steiner, it was released by Berthold Fototypes in the same year as the single. Almost fifty years later, in 2021, Jordan Davies of Wooden Type Fonts released a digitization named Alpine Mtn. Unfortunately Davies doesn’t credit the original designer, nor does he mention the fact that it is a revival.

Photography by Cornelius and Marcellus Hudalla.
