In the 1970s, French imprint Éditions du Chêne published many books debuting the work of photographers who would later become prominent. This is a collection of 141 photographs by Henri Cartier-Bresson of U.S.S.R. people and places. The book design (“maquette”) is credited to Jacques Maillot, who placed three of the images within the title on the cover. The typeface, Deutsch Black is reminiscent of the brutalist architecture and monuments featured in some of the photography.
