Magazine ad by the Canada Dry Corporation for their grapefruit-based soft drink Wink from 1969, apparently in partnership with Volkswagen and tying in with Paramount’s musical film Paint Your Wagon.

Enter the Wink paint your wagon contest.
(Win a free Volkswagen.)

Entering is easy. Just pick up a free contest blank at the Wink Paint Your Wagon display in your favorite participating store (or write to Entry Blank, Box 75-C, Mount Vernon, N.Y. 10558). Every blank has contest rules (they’re simple) plus an outline of a Volkswagen. What you do is decorate it. Any way you like. Use any available material to express your own creative ideas. Entries will be judged solely on the basis imaginative use of color and unusual designs. Lots of Volkswagens will be given away compliments of Wink. Our contest ends Midnight, May 15, 1969. So start painting. (Or water coloring. Or crayoning. Or inking. Right away.) And if you want some real inspiration while you’re working, crack open an icy cold bottle of Wink. Because Wink is the real thing. Real grapefruit. Real oranges. Imitation nothing. (Unlike Fresca®, that’s made with imitation citrus flavor.) It could just bring out the hidden artist in you. We, and the Volkswagens, can’t wait to see what you do. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited

All text is set in various styles from Futura. The headline is in the Extra Bold, which was added by Edwin W. Shaar for Intertype in 1952, based on Paul Renner’s famous 1920s design.
