Gold in America: Artistry, Memory, Power is a 2022 exhibition curated by John Stuart Gordon at the Yale University Art Gallery that showcases the importance and impact of gold in the US through objects spanning centuries. Exhibition graphics were designed by Chris Chew.
The text and lettering found on certain objects in the exhibition range from elegantly engraved cursive initials to hand-scrawled forms. The main title is set in Club Lithographer by DJR, which speaks to the full spectrum of lettercraft with elegance in its angle and script-like swashes combined with more casual qualities in its wide forms and blobby ends. The secondary typeface, used for the subtitle, wall text, and section headers, is Gaya by Out of the Dark. Inspired by blurred types like FF Blur, the softened edges and brackets are reminiscent of worn-down type on a coin made of soft metal.
