The Mean Girls film started from a book by Rosalind Wiseman titled Queen Bees and Wannabes (2002). The screenplay was written by Tina Fey, along with Mark Waters as director.

From the iconic lines that people keep saying/quoting, the famous Burn Book, or just simply the cast that we’re familiar with, Mean Girls is a part of popular culture that we can not resist and it has its influence up until now.

The movie poster, DVD cover and box set all make consistent use of Futura as the main typeface, featuring different weights from the family as well as tight spacing for the main title. The DVD packaging has additional handwriting fonts on the back which are still unidentified.

Futura appears for the visual promotions, the opening scene, and the credits. It’s not included for the Burn Book or other visuals which appear during the film. According to IMDb, Picture Mill created the main titles.

Despite the huge success in 2004, Mean Girls 2 from 2011 was released for TV only. Storywise, it wasn’t a sequel to the first film, and featured a totally different cast. Still it used the same typographic identity with a similar style of composition and arrangement.
