Pearls of Passion is Roxette’s debut album. Released in Sweden and in Canada of all places! It contains the hits “Neverending Love”, “Soul Deep”, and “Goodbye to You”. It didn’t make any noise whatsoever outside of Sweden. Designed by Kjell Andersson as all of EMI’s albums were back then. There was a CD re-release in 1997 where the fonts were subtly changed, ITC Fat Face became Poster Bodoni for instance.
Back side. Inside joke: Rox 1 and Rox 2 mean Side 1 and Side 2. Rox1 in Swedish is pronounced Roxette. The track list is set in Stempel Garamond Italic, loosely spaced and with roman caps.
For the original release, Berling was used to set the “PEARLS of PASSION” title on the cover. The rest is indeed Stempel Garamond. This same combination was used on three later releases: “Goodbye to You”, “Dance Passion”, and “It Must Have Been Love (Christmas for the Broken Hearted)”.
Kjell Andersson did this on many designs where the front cover would use a different serif to the back and liner notes.

Thank you, Barry. I’ve added Berling to the typeface credis.
