I was commissioned to work on an editorial piece for Ambush’s new website, about the retailer’s first physical store, located in Tokyo and designed by architect Masamichi Katayama. A large body of my work is based around consumerism and late-stage capitalism. I based this commission on the quote below:
The dispassionate modernist gaze – a curatorial move which in turn appears as symptomatic of a certain affinity between “cold” modernism and military anti-humanism. In the age that denies the very existence of society, to insist on the scandal of the world’s increasingly grotesque ‘connectedness’, the hidden merciless grinding away beneath the slick superficial liquidity of markets.
